Being Sick and Staying Fit.
It happens randomly, I swear. You’re feelin’ great, in fact you’ve been feelin great, and then you go under the weather in some degree. I know, it sucks. I mean truthfully, the best I can say is that it happens and you’ll get through it like you always do. But you know me, I don’t stop there, so I got your questions covered.
First step would be to figure out what it really is. I mean if you’ve got allergies you aren’t contagious. An antihistamine should do the trick. You might be out for like a 2-4 days but in the light, that’s probably good. Give yourself a little break. Rest and sleep. Reset your body. If you’ve got some sniffles just kinda say eh and live with it. Be polite though. Wash your hands and know that if you probably shouldn’t be out in public, don’t be out in public. It’s simple as that.
Some good alternative to things like this are to actually go out for a little jog. I didn’t say to book it like a bear is after you. Side note: if you haven’t seen this video you need to. Don’t worry, it is just a YouTube link. It’s hilarious though I promise. Go out for like 30 minutes but stay near your house. Trust me though it’ll free up your sinuses.
Now if you’ve got that post nasal drip (which I hate) you might be in a bit of a predicament. First see if you can clear it up a little at home. Gargle with salt water, rinse that mouth clean with some mouthwash and see where that takes you. The problem you’ll have is that if you go out running (especially in the cold) you’ll send your throat on a roller coaster and that might hurt. But, if you do it at the right pace you might not. That’s really up to you. But the solution still stands, if you clear the sinuses you can help the throat.
All in all head colds just suck. If I could snap my fingers or take some of the sickness on for you I would but I can’t. The world doesn’t spin like that. Treat the nose first though. Take some medicine, drink like you’re dehydrated, eat right, pound back vitamin C. Lastly, and I really mean this. Just chill out dude. Grab the laptop, phone and TV and just park your butt in a nice place and relax man. You’re sick to whatever degree. Let your body reset and do its thing. You’ll get better.
Now, if you’re like REALLY sick, you’re in for a while. I’ll be your parent and tell you that if I have to. Dude, you better stay at home and just focus on getting better. You want to be sick for a week or 3 weeks? Ya, I though so. I understand you’ve got stuff to do. But you are SICK. Ya hear me? Other people will know you are sick too. They’ll understand. Didn’t you understand when your friend was sick? Ya, they’ll do the same for you. I mean really dude, I get it, you wanna be bad and tell yourself you’re ok but you’re not.
Fortunately I have you covered here as well. You want to get better? Well then follow this and you will. Weather you have the flu, a nasty ass cold, sinus infection to the max you have go to hydrate, sleep, and get vitamin C up the wahzoo. Get to the doctor too when you need it. Your ultimate goal it to get better.
Here’s a little story that I want to share with you and then give you my solutions, which will most likely work for you.
Back in February I caught what I swear to you was the worst cold of my life. It was straight awful. I was so sick I literally cried for 3 days in pain. I lost 25 pounds too. I’m 6’1. I weigh 165 … I weighed 140. I couldn’t even drink water because my throat hurt that bad and even scarier, a few times when I tried to swallow my throat stuck together because of the nasal drip (this will never happen to you I promise, don’t ever fear this). I couldn’t eat either. I was out of the gym for a month. When I got back I could barely do anything either. My first workout consisted of me looking at the dumbbells for a bench press set, saying “screw this” and going home. Not to mention too the cold was still in my system. I was completely fine, no stuffy nose no soar throat, no headache etc, but I was still just exhausted. My body was drained of all energy and fat. The worst part … this was a common cold. Really I swear. There is no cure for the common cold over than OTC and some prescription meds.
Now if you have a cold that requires prescription meds get them man. You need them. Then you need to go out and get this stuff.
This is a saline nasal solution. It works better than that med stuff you spray into your nose because you can use this whenever you want. After like 3 days or so the other stuff kills your nose and you can actually worsen your sinuses. To use this, you lay down on your side and spray it into your nose. It then drips down your other nostril and out, flushing your sinuses. You don’t even feel it either. Its a little tricky though and truthfully just takes some time. I mean if your nose is really stuffed up it will take longer. But remember the goal is to get better. To make this process a little easier get in the shower and let the steam clear your sinuses. Then spray this stuff.
Also, if you have a steam room accessible use that. That puppy will whip your nostrils into shape.
At the end of it all remember you are sick and just keep this article in the back of your head. Understand that it is ok to be sick. It happens. Its ok to take a few days off. Remember, you want to be sick for a week or 3 weeks? Your choice.
When you get back just drop your weights like 5 or 10 pounds. Get the motions going. It’s ok, you’ll get back to where you were in less than a week I promise. I just don’t want you getting hurt.
